How To Help Understand Autistic People

There are many ways to understand those with autism. Let them be comfortable to tell you how to behave around them, how to strengthen them, communicate with them, what they like to do, and how they work.

Don't watch them too much to make them feel uncomfortable, but long enough to learn what they do in the skills they use. Don't treat them too over protective or treat them like a huge precious breakable object because they will feel unsafe or feel like something is wrong with them.

When one with autism is unhappy or down, give them comfort and try to make them smile and laugh. When they say they want to be left alone they want to be alone but in my opinion try to find someone that person with autism is comfortable to talk to or comfort them anyways.

Give people with autism someone to talk to. Don't force it upon them that they have to though. Ask them if they want to see a therapist or a counselor if they can't talk about it with you. If they say no, tell them that they can always come back and ask if they do want someone to talk to. If they are unsure of how to answer give them enough time or let them think at their own pace to answer.

Most autistic kids will go into their own world inside their heads and just stare straight in the real world which basically mean zoning out. It usually happens when they don't want to learn what they're taught or when someone is talking about a subject they don't like. Most autistic kids will not make eye contact, hold their hands together underneath or over their chests and moving their heads around when they talk.

Read books, look at websites, and go to classes to understand more about autism. Those will definitely give you information besides what this blog has taught you.
